The 2026 Mid-Terms: Republicrats, Fetishists, and Asshats

Well, it’s time for the gearing up of the duopoly for the midterms, and it is notable that both major parties once again think that targeting the rights of women and girls is a great idea. On the Republican side we have the zygote zealots attempting to block Mifepristone, criminalize abortion, and even wishing they could strip women of the right to vote. They should make Monty Python’s “Every Sperm is Sacred” their anthem because their fealty is more to Christian dominionist male supremacy than to the Constitution.

On the Democratic side, candidates are still pushing gender ideology, apparently ok with gender ideologues screaming “Trans women ARE women!” to anyone who is reality based enough to recognize biological sex, attacking defenders of girls’ sports, grown men calling young teenage girls “trash”. It’s ok, apparently for 12-year-old girls who don’t think they should have to undress in front of entitled, (and in the case of the recent plaintiff in the sports case, “BPJ”, who sexually harassed one of the girls in the locker room) revolting, little boys who claim they are “trans” in order to gain access to their sports and locker rooms.  It also appears to be completely acceptable to Democrats for trans-identified males to make rape and death threats to anyone who reminds them of the biological reality that men cannot be women.

Republicans continue to run woman haters and Democrats continue to run woman impersonators. The special treat this election season, after candidate for the Maine Senate, Nazi tattooed misogynist candidate Graham Platner, who finally was asked to step down after rape allegations (why should the Republicans get to be the only ones to run sex offenders?), is a trans “woman” who claims to have “ovaries” and menstruate from his rectum. This development prompted one person on social media to post “Susan Collins is the luckiest woman alive!” Either that or Democrats are doing a hell of a vetting job.

I’ve got news for you deluded Democrats and gender ideologues, “Ashley” Webb with his colonic periods and Bryon Noem of “bimbofication” and “looning” fame are what the majority of trans “women” are like—they are fetishistic, deranged men. Transgenderism is not a “human rights issue” or “just another healthy choice”, however hip, “innate”, or “kink positive” (a spurious and oxymoronic term if there ever was one) you think it is.

Republicans need to be reminded that there are women not only in their voter base but make up large percentages of elected representatives in state houses throughout the country, so maybe trying to deprive them of their right to vote, whether by passing the SAVE Act or attempting to roll back the 19th amendment, may be self-defeating, and that putting women’s health and lives in danger by criminalizing abortion and treating women like incubators is not only cruel and inhumane but not a winning strategy. Letting mothers die who need emergency abortions is not exactly “pro-family”, and elevating fetal life over the life of the mother is not exactly “pro-life”, since the woman’s life is primary. Republicans also should be reminded that the majority of voters do not support the views espoused by social “influencers” in the Manosphere or the brazen misogyny of Hegseth, Fuentes, or the Tate brothers, and that sexual harassment and assault are criminal and moral offenses.

Democrats, who hypocritically claim the mantle of “science” and “free speech” meanwhile engaging in the denial of biological, material reality in favor of metaphysical nonsense based on circular definitions and undefinable vagueries, attempt to silence anyone who even questions gender ideology, calling them “bigots” and “transphobes”, callously disregarding the proven harm of “gender-affirming care,” and dismissing the opportunities, privacy, dignity, and safety of women and girls in sports. “Blue” states like Connecticut, Washington, California, New Jersey, and Illinois have even opened up domestic violence shelters to men masquerading as women, and are putting trans-identifying sex offenders in the same cells with women prisoners. This is nothing short of “cruel and unusual punishment”, prohibited by the 8th Amendment, if anyone cares anymore about the Constitution.

Both Democrats and Republicans need to be reminded of the basic fact that women are human.

Democrats and those to their left, like the Greens, the Democratic Socialists, Peace and Freedom, etc., who have remained obeisant to gender ideology and callously heedless to its assault on the rights of real women and girls will be the focus in this post. But in the future, there are serious reforms we need to make to the system by breaking up the duopoly—some would call a uniparty. Here are some ideas:

  • get Independents and third party candidates on the ballot and on the debate stage
  • ensure candidates are vetted thoroughly for honesty and ethical, pro-social (or at least not anti-social or sociopathic) conduct; eliminate malignant narcissists (it is too much to hope for that we could sift out the shameless self-promoters or opportunistic soul sellers?)
  • institute rank choice voting across the country as well as proportional representation
  • validate and enforce the fully-ratified Equal Rights Amendment
  • pass the We the People Amendment to end the two illegitimate legal doctrines of corporate so-called “personhood” and money as protected “speech”
  • pass a constitutional amendment prohibiting criminals from holding federal office
  • end impunity for oligarchs and corporations
  • pass Single Payer healthcare
  • stop funding endless wars
  • publicly fund political campaigns
  • end legal bribery and corporate lobbying of candidates
  • tax the billionaires into penury
  • institute citizen oversight of all three branches of government

But for now, we need to rein in the insanity of the current administration and hopefully curtail some of its egregious excesses, so we are dependent on the Democrats getting in office and hopefully holding it accountable. But first Democrats need to realize that Trump was elected in 2024 due to the following top 3 concerns according to polling:

  • The economy/inflation
  • The border/immigration
  • Opposition to gender identity

We therefore invite members of the public who care about the rights of actual biological women and girls to direct the following questions to primarily Democratic candidates who are running for the first time or for re-election but others as well who subscribe to sex denialism.

QUESTIONS FOR CANDIDATES CAPTURED BY GENDER IDEOLOGY RUNNING FOR OFFICE

  • Democrats/Greens/Socialists claim to care about the rights of women, but the only right you defend is abortion. Why don’t you care about the obstruction of the fully-ratified Equal Rights Amendment, the degradation of women in prostitution, and the incursions of males into our sports and private spaces? Why are you not speaking out about those rights?
  • Why are you pursuing policies that prioritize trans rights over women’s rights, when women remain the only demographic left out of the federal Constitution and comprise half the population?
  • Why do you not seem to be concerned about the impact of these policies on biological women and girls whom you purport to represent?
  • Why are trans people who represent a fraction of the population being given more consideration than 51% of the population?
  • Why are trans rights always at the expense of biological women and girls? What legitimate civil or human rights movements have demanded that their rights supersede the rights of others?
  • What legitimate activists attempt to compel the speech of others and demand that they adhere to their terms and beliefs, in defiance of reality?
  • What legitimate movement attempts to silence, de-platform, smear, or threaten anyone who questions their beliefs and demands? Why is there no debate of these issues allowed?
  • Who are your donors, and how much are you getting from trans rights groups or groups promoting pornography and protecting pornographers, pimps, johns, and traffickers?
  • Why are you supporting the whitewashing of prostitution by calling it “sex work” as if it’s a legitimate job? Prostitution is the oldest oppression (NOT profession) and the commodification of women in this way is sexual slavery. Why are you not condemning this?
  • Are you aware that pharmaceuticals are prescribing Lupron, a chemical castration drug, off label to children to arrest puberty, and that it prevents bone and brain development?
  • Are you aware that gender clinics are prescribing cross-sex hormones and sex-rejecting surgeries on children and minors, including increasingly on young girls, referrals for which have skyrocketed in recent years, and who are now getting mastectomies and hysterectomies, and experiencing osteoporosis and menopause in adolescence? What are you doing about this?
  • Are you aware of the Cass Review of the GIDS Tavistock Clinic in the UK that exposed the faulty research and junk science on which so-called “gender-affirming care” is based and that countries in Europe are backing away from the affirmation model with its iatrogenic, irreversible medical procedures that render these children sterile, sexually dysfunctional, and dependent on hormones for the rest of their lives? What action are you taking to combat this?
  • Are you aware that children and youth are being fast-tracked without thorough psychological evaluation for sexual abuse history, and that many of these children are autistic or same-sex attracted and have internalized homophobia? Is this something you wish to support?
  • Did you know that WPATH has been exposed as promoting medical experimentation on children and vulnerable adults, knowing of the deleterious effects including sexual dysfunction, sterility, and retarding bone and brain development? Why are you treating this organization like it is the authority on gender confused youth when it is perpetrating harm?
  • Did you know that WPATH is encouraging practitioners to submit fraudulent insurance claims so they can receive payment for sex-rejecting interventions whitewashed as “gender medicine”? Are you aware WPATH is being sued for fraud and deceptive practices by several states and the FTC?
  • Did you know that the claims of suicidality of youth denied sex-rejecting medicalization is spurious? The plaintiffs admitted in oral arguments before the Supreme Court in the Skrmetti case that the suicide claims were not true, yet this falsehood continues to be repeated by Democratic candidates like Tom Steyer in the California Governor’s race. Why?
  • Are you aware that states like California are trying to pass legislation smearing actual exploratory psychotherapy, practiced for over a century, as “conversion therapy” if it doesn’t abandon its ethics, training, and clinical judgment to fast-track clients into “gender affirming care” without thorough evaluations? Why aren’t you speaking up about this?
  • Are you aware that gender ideology indoctrinates young children with regressive sexual stereotypes and the negation of sexual orientation that the women’s liberation movement worked for decades to overcome? Why are you promoting sexual stereotypes over allowing gender non-conforming children to express themselves freely?
  • Why is it tolerated to refer to another human being by only her body parts, such as “uterine-havers, birthing bodies, or front-hole havers”? Why is this not correctly identified as misogynist dehumanization and denounced? Why would you support motherhood being reduced to and redefined as “pregnant people”, as if anyone but a woman gives birth?
  • Did you know that trans-identifying men are now demanding that they be given lactation-inducing drugs like domperidone so that they can “chest feed” infants for their own gratification, putting babies at risk of harm from these chemicals? What are you going to do about this disgusting practice?
  • Are you aware that the invasion of trans-identifying males into women’s safe spaces like locker rooms, changing rooms, and bathrooms are enabling predation and nullifying laws against indecent exposure and voyeurism? What are you going to do to ensure the safety, privacy, and dignity of women and girls?
  • Are you aware that women and girls are not only being denied opportunities, awards, and endorsements in sports, but even scholarships and are being subjected to physical injuries by trans-identifying males being allowed to play on the female teams? This is a clear violation of Title IX and its intent. What are you going to do to stop this?
  • Why do Democrats perpetuate the reprehensible falsehood that those trying to save women’s sports are trying to enable “genital checks” when all that is required to identify whether an athlete is male or female is a simple cheek swab?
  • Are you aware that trans-identified males are making rape and death threats online towards any woman who does not recognize them as females? Are you aware that trans-identified males have physically assaulted women, including elderly women, at Let Women Speak rallies? What are you going to do to protect women from trans violence?
  • Are you aware that men, some of whom are actual pedophiles, have been exposing themselves to young children at Drag Queen Story Hour performances, welcomed into young children’s classrooms without even having had background checks?
  • Did you know that children are being sexualized by pornographic material in grade schools under the guise of sex education? How do you explain the shift from exposure to pornography as a reportable sex crime to an educational tool for kids who identify as LGBTQ?! When are you going to address this?!
  • Did you know that there are men calling themselves “Beyond the Plus” who are pedophiles lobbying to be seen as a legitimate “sexual orientation”? This is a direct result of gender ideology. Do you intend to allow this to happen?
  • Are you aware that sex offenders, some of whom are also murderers, are being put in women’s prisons in the same cells with biological women, just because they self-id as “trans”, and that women are being raped and impregnated? Did you know that it is the WOMEN who are disciplined when they complain? What are you going to do about this horrific injustice?
  • Are you aware that rape victims are being required to refer to their trans-identified rapists as “she” in rape trials? What are you doing about this?
  • What are you going to do about crime statistics being skewed and rendered meaningless by attributing violent crimes like rape to women when they are being committed by trans-identified men?
  • Are you aware that there are 4 women murdered every day in this country by men (however they “identify”)? What are you going to do to put a stop to this public health crisis and ensure that it is prosecuted as the hate crime that it is?
  • How much money do you receive from Big Pharma and medical or political organizations who are practicing and greatly benefiting financially from gender medicine or pornography?
  • Why are you selling women out to a men’s rights movement and the corporate lobby that supports it?

Who are the Men Who Oppose Women’s Equality?

Well, the list is quite long indeed. There are the unabashed women haters of the Manosphere, the Broligarchs, the corporate moguls, the tech billionaires, the pornography pushers, the pimps, the johns, the sex traffickers, the Evangelicals, the Catholic church, the Christian Nationalists, the Dominionists, the fundamentalists and male supremacists of every variety of patriarchal religion, the incels, rapists, pedophiles, and lest we forget, the trans-identified fetishists and autogynephiles, sex addicts, and sadists.

All across the political spectrum, women are commodified, vilified, debased, silenced, dehumanized, and sentenced to second-class citizenship and would be rendered handmaidens of the Right, transmaidens of the Left if these men had their way. Women’s agency, bodily sovereignty, freedom, and autonomy are restricted on the one hand, and exploited on the other, but denigrated and dismissed by both. From the bedroom to the boardroom, women are treated as nothing more than objects to be manipulated and used. The tyranny of the ruling sex class of men, however they ‘identify’, reveals itself not only in the handling of the Epstein files and case, but in the staggering statistics:

  • Over 4 women a week were murdered in California in 2020; now there are 4 women a day being murdered in the U.S.
  • Over 298.000 rapes of women were reported in the U.S. in 2020
  • Spousal abuse of women is estimated at 4.8 million every year
  • Approximately 1 million women are stalked annually in the U.S.
  • Over 78% of sexual harassment charges were filed by women between 2018-2021
  • 7 in 10 human trafficking victims are women and girls
  • Over 500,000 cases of female genital mutilation have occurred or are at risk of occurring in the U.S.
  • Abortion rights and birth control are increasingly under attack, risking women’s health and lives
  • “Women in every state report injustice in their family law cases, especially battered mothers trying to protect their children from abusive fathers who aggressively litigate against them, using family court to stalk, harass, punish, and impoverish their former partners and children” according to NOW
  • Child marriage is still prevalent in the U.S., 87% of victims of which are girls
  • Women still earn around 82 cents to every dollar men earn
  • Single women and mothers with children are the two fastest-growing groups of people experiencing homelessness in the United States
  • Sexual assault victims are overwhelmingly female and their assailants are male
  • Women and girls’ safe spaces are being invaded by trans-identified males, including prisons where female prisoners are being assaulted and raped
  • Women and girls’ achievements, opportunities, endorsements, scholarships, and trophies are being stolen by mediocre male athletes – over 600 individuals in 29 different sports have been affected
  • Girls are the fastest growing group to be medicalized, sterilized, and mutilated by sex-rejecting “gender affirming care”

P. T. Barnum Meets Revenge of the Nerds

In view of what has been happening in Washington, it seems important to look at the larger context in which we women are losing our rights, as well as our social safety net and livelihoods. We find ourselves in the middle of a war on democracy, justice, freedom of speech, science, reality, and sanity, between 2 cults: the MAGA cult on the right, and the gender cult on the Left. In this post, I will focus on the former; I’ll deal with the gender cult in a subsequent post. In both cults, women lose, but in different ways.

The MAGA cult wants to strip us of all of our reproductive rights, our right to divorce our abusers, our right to equal pay for equal work, our dignity as single mothers, our right to choose our partners, our right to live free from fear of male violence and sexual assault, and have even gone so far as to suggest we should be stripped of our right to vote. The MAGA cult would enshrine fetal so-called “personhood” into law, while denying and even criminalizing our right to choose to be child and pregnancy free, and would even deny us birth control. Being anti-abortion and anti-ERA have been articles of faith for the religious Right, which comprise a huge portion of MAGA, for over 40 years. Anyone wanting to learn more about this threat, particularly from the religious Right, should watch the documentary, Bad Faith. The current administration in Washington has been enabled largely by an unholy Trinity of Christian Dominionists, Big Tech, and Billionaires like the Koch Brothers, and, of course, Elon Musk.

While Vance’s role seems to be relegated to being the administration’s attack dog, Musk is given free rein to destroy our government agencies, along with his band of unqualified, pubescent hackers. It is P. T. Barnum meets Revenge of the Nerds. Trump the lying huckster and Musk the incompetent self-promoting technocrat, narcissistic sociopaths selling their followers on the phony narrative of going after the “swamp” and “waste, fraud, and abuse” when they are the quintessential examples of corrupt plutocrats, dismantling every agency and department that stands in the way of their greed and exploitation. If they really wanted to do away with “waste, fraud, and abuse”, they could start by ending Elon Musk’s government contracts. In any case, it is truly amazing that anyone believes the hype that’s coming from the Trump/Musk traveling circus. But they dare not utter one word of protest or risk being shamed, humiliated, and banished from the cult. Total, unquestioning loyalty is required of Trump and Musk’s minions.

Corporate welfare in the form of government subsidies, grants, tax breaks, and giveaways are where the real money is going and how these criminal billionaires are growing fat off the taxpayer’s dime, selling America’s assets off to the highest bidder while sending all the watchdogs and laws and agencies meant to protect the 99% to the trash heap. Goodbye Inspectors General, Goodbye Consumer Financial Protection Agency, Goodbye ethical attorneys at the U.S. Department of Justice, Goodbye programs that help the poor and middle class, Goodbye environmental protections, Goodbye to access for journalists, Goodbye to impartial law enforcement, Goodbye to everything the average American depends on in the name of “bringing down the deficit”. This is the billionaires’ idea of “Making America Great Again”.

A lie this huge ought to be obvious by now and this administration would be a hilarious clown show were it not for the reality that actual people all over the world are being harmed, and women, (and children) more than any other group, are once again the major recipients of this harm. This is particularly true for single mothers and older women, the poorest of the poor, who depend on the social safety net for survival. The MAGA cult is enamored with billionaires and vulture capitalism, and blatantly displays its male supremacy. In this world might is right, human beings are commodified, women are chattel, and every interaction transactional. The only values are money, profit, and power, and every action is only worthy if it can be “monetized” or can enhance their domination.

George Carlin warned us that the owner class was coming for us, years ago now, his words compellingly prophetic.

Both political parties are complicit in this sellout to corporate ownership of our government and ourselves, which began long ago, but with this duo and their loyalist enablers we are witnessing a massive transfer of wealth from the poor and middle class to the ultra wealthy that is breathtaking in its scope. It is nothing short of a heist, hidden behind a shell game intended to distract from their true intention: to transform our democratic republic into a kleptocracy run by dictators hellbent on returning us to feudalism.

Silicon Valley and Big Tech have had these designs for a long time it turns out, and billionaires have been plotting to enrich themselves by impoverishing the rest of us for decades. But now it is coming into full fruition with the Trump/Musk traveling circus who are more than happy to allow the Christian fundamentalist, nationalist, dominionists to turn women into handmaidens as payment for their services in helping them gain power. We must resist with every ounce of our individual and collective strength or we will lose everything, including ourselves.

The Equal Rights Amendment MUST Be Published Before Trump Takes Office!

In view of recent election results and, despite denials, the clear intention of the Trump Administration to implement Project 2025, which reads as a male supremacist manifesto, it is imperative that Biden reverse his obstructionism and instruct the National Archivist, Colleen Shogun, to publish the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution.  The ERA has met all the legal requirements, having been ratified by ¾ of the states, the 38th of which, Virginia, ratified on January 27, 2020.  Women have been waiting for over a century for the ERA to first be passed by Congress, and then be ratified by the required number of states.

The National Archivist is a ministerial position under the Executive Branch, and Biden is the only person who can reverse the decision by the Trump Administration to unconstitutionally interfere with its automatic publication following ratification by the requisite states, and reverse his own administration’s continuation of the Trump obstructionism.  The ERA represents our best, and only, real bulwark against the tide of male supremacism Trump promises to deliver.

We acknowledge that biological women, as a sex class, have enemies on the Left and on the Right. The embrace and promotion of gender ideology on the Left and its erasure of women has been breathtaking, despite its utter lack of scientific evidence; its having been founded on junk science; its clear misogyny and homophobia in its exaltation of sexual stereotypes; its disregard for the safeguarding of children and legitimate concerns of parents; the willful blindness to the real harms of medicalization, and the corporate pharmaceutical money behind it; the pain of detransitioners and regretters; and total disregard of the infringement on the sex-based rights and safety of women and girls.

In addition, the cancel culture, McCarthyist repression of free speech and de-platforming of anyone questioning gender ideology and so-called “gender affirming care”, has exposed the authoritarian nature of this men’s rights movement, which has captured the Left, with rare exception.

Among other issues such as Gaza, the border, the disastrous handling of the exit from Afghanistan, concerns about the price of living, etc., the Biden Administration’s elevating the rights of trans-identified males over the rights of women and girls and the promotion of gender ideology was one of the reasons that the Presidential Democratic ticket lost the election to Trump.

In following the dictates of the TQ+ gender lobby, the Biden/Harris Administration and the Harris/Walz campaign ceded rational ground to the other enemies of women’s rights, the Christian nationalists and their MAGA allies, men’s rights activists, and other garden variety misogynists, who nevertheless know what a woman is and that there are only two sexes, observable at birth. Their adherence to this ideology contributed directly to Trump’s appeal and ultimate win, as this is an issue he plans to confront, some long-time Democrats even voting for him because they hope for some relative sanity to be restored in this regard.

The men’s rights activists insist that women are inferior, should cater to men, be subservient, and allow themselves to be sexually exploited. Some young incels and “bros” have been emboldened by Trump’s win to the extent that they are now exultantly proclaiming “Your body, MY choice!” in defiance of the abortion rights battle cry and women’s right to bodily autonomy and agency and in their zeal to dominate and control women’s lives and bodies.

The Christian Right, the other enemy of women’s sex-based rights, has embraced Trump as their champion and tirelessly devoted itself to his campaign, and has been greatly empowered by Trump’s win and takeover of Congress and the Supreme Court. It would like to not only turn women into handmaidens, but outlaw and criminalize abortion and also birth control, attempt to grant fetuses “personhood”, track women’s pregnancies and penalize miscarriages, do away with no-fault divorce, treat rapists with kid gloves and accuse victims of “false reporting”, end investigation of campus rape, penalize unmarried women, and generally return women to 1950’s America. The Christian Nationalists also take a very dim view of our federal government and welcome Trump’s plan to dismantle it.  The truth is, it aims to destroy our representative democracy, do away with the separation of church and state, and transform this country into a theocratic dictatorship. If you think this is an overstatement, please view the recently released documentary, “Bad Faith”, and prior to that, “The Family“. This is the enemy that will be in ascendance with Trump in power.

We call on all women and men who oppose tyranny and the destruction of the rights of natal women and girls to help us get the ERA finally published onto the Constitution in order to protect us from the twin threats of gender ideology and the religious right.  We have allies in Congress who have signed onto the resolutions, SJR 39 in the Senate, and HJR 82 in the House, which recognize that the only remaining step for the ERA to become law is publication, and that it is up to Joe Biden to finally take this step to ensure that all the hard-won rights women have fought for, including voting rights, abortion rights, contraception, equal pay, no-fault divorce, owning property, obtaining credit in one’s own name, safe spaces, sports, etc. are not rolled back. The ERA would ensure that women cease to be treated as second-class citizens before the law, and would have prevented Roe being overturned.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the sponsor of SJR 39, is hosting a virtual Town Hall on the ERA on this coming Tuesday, December 3rd at 4 PM PDT, 7 PM EST and we need supporters of the ERA to register now and attend! We also need you to call these Senators and U.S. Representatives and direct them to apply pressure to Biden to publish and text Biden at 302-404-0880 and Harris at 310-861-2977.

The time is NOW!  We cannot let the efforts of our First Wave Feminist forebears like Alice Paul’s efforts to be in vain.  Sign up for the Town Hall and start calling and writing these representatives and the White House, remind them on social media, and don’t stop until Biden makes the call to the National Archivist and gets the ERA in the Constitution!

The Equal Rights Amendment – Final Impact Plan!

What is the ERA? The ERA is an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to correct the omission of women. Like all amendments, it required ¾ of the states (38) to ratify it for it to become part of the Constitution. This is the full text:

Section 1: Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.

Section 2: The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.

Section 3: This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

The ERA was ratified by the 38th state (Virginia) on January 27, 2020. So why isn’t it in the Constitution?  Because first the Trump Administration and then the Biden Administration have unconstitutionally obstructed its being published by the National Archivist, as the Constitution requires.

There are so many reasons why women and girls need the ERA. Let’s review some statistics:

  • Over 4 women a week were murdered in California in 2020
  • Over 298.000 rapes of women were reported in the U.S. in the same year
  • Spousal abuse of women is estimated at 4.8 million every year
  • Approximately 1 million women are stalked annually in the U.S.
  • Over 78% of sexual harassment charges were filed by women between 2018-2021
  • 7 in 10 human trafficking victims are women and girls
  • Over 500,000 cases of female genital mutilation have occurred or are at risk of occurring in the U.S.
  • Abortion rights and birth control are increasingly under attack, risking women’s health and lives
  • Women in every state report injustice in their family law cases, especially battered mothers trying to protect their children from abusive fathers who aggressively litigate against them, using family court to stalk, harass, punish, and impoverish their former partners and children
  • Child marriage is still prevalent in the U.S., 87% of victims of which are girls
  • Women still earn 82 cents to every dollar men earn
  • Single women and mothers with children are the two fastest-growing groups of people experiencing homelessness in the United States

All of this is facilitated and amplified by the fact that women do not have equal standing in the U.S. Constitution.

Some History:

The ERA was first introduced into Congress in 1923 as the Lucretia Mott Amendment, shortly after women suffragists won the right to vote. It was always Alice Paul’s and the First Wave feminists’ intent to gain equal standing in the U.S. Constitution following gaining the vote. The ERA languished for decades, however, was rewritten in 1943, and finally passed in its present form in 1972. This was due to the efforts of Paul who seized the moment when the Civil Rights Movement for black people gained ground in order to press for the civil rights of women. It then went to the states for ratification and reached 35 states before the imposed deadline of first 7 years, extended to 10 years, expired in 1982. In 1992, when the 27th amendment was passed after over 202 years, efforts began anew to obtain the last 3 states to ratify in order to reach the ¾ requirement.

Because of the tireless efforts of individual women and especially the organization, Equal Means Equal, Nevada ratified in 2017; Illinois in 2018, and Virginia in 2020, reaching the required 38 states. Instead of being published onto the Constitution by the National Archivist as Article V of the Constitution mandates, however, the Trump Administration unconstitutionally interfered with its publication by writing a memo, known as the Bill Barr Memo, to the National Archivist telling him not to publish because the deadline had passed.  As Archivist, David Ferriero had recorded the ratifications of Nevada and Illinois, but pursuant to the memo from the Office of Legal Counsel in the Trump administration’s Department of Justice, he did not act to publish and certify the ERA after receiving Virginia’s ratification documents in January 2020.

Then after the 2020 election, the Biden Administration continued obstructing its publication and has fought it in court like the Trump Administration did, despite claiming support for the ERA and women’s rights when campaigning. This is especially outrageous considering the fact that the Dobbs decision overturning Roe would not have been possible had the ERA been in the Constitution.

David Ferriero retired in the spring of 2022, and Colleen Shogan was confirmed as his successor as Archivist; she has stated she would publish the ERA if she were told to do so by President Biden. So that is what we need to pressure him to do! We need as many people as possible participating every day in this campaign between now and the election, as that is when we have some leverage and can get some national attention.

Let them know they should be pressuring him directly as it is HIS responsibility, not theirs.  No bill extending the deadline is needed either (nor is it valid).

We wish to voice our full-throated support for the group, RiseUp4AbortionRights and commend them for leading the fight against the reprehensible Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe V. Wade.  RiseUp4Abortion Rights has been on the ground working for years to build grassroots resistance to the attempt by the religious right and extremist politicians to pass restrictive, punitive laws regarding abortion and we wish to acknowledge them specifically as the driving force demanding the right to abortion with no apologies!  We agree with their core message, that this is a fight for women’s lives, and that we need to exercise solidarity and sisterhood, get in the streets, and not wait for elections!! Women have always had and will continue to have abortions. The Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision of 1973, though limited from a feminist perspective, was a great defeat for anti-abortion forces. Those forces have been hard at work chipping away at our right as women to control our reproductive capacity ever since. It seems likely the Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade this term. If that happens, how do we fight to keep abortion services safe and make them accessible?

Featured speakers:

Merle Hoffman founded one of the first abortion clinics in the U.S. in New York in 1971. She wrote a book about her experiences, Intimate Wars: The Life and Times of the Woman who Brought Abortion from the Back Alley to the Boardroom, she edited a feminist quarterly, On the Issues Magazine, a Magazine of Feminist, Progressive Thinking on reproductive rights for more than a decade, and formed the Choices Global Institute to help underserved women in the U.S. and abroad find women’s health services.

Kathy Scarbrough has been active in feminist and left organizations since the late 1970s. Currently, she is a member of FIST, supporter of Redstockings and co-editor of Meeting Ground Online.

FIST’s Feminist Forums series are interactive and organizing events. At our forums, women have an opportunity not only to hear interesting speakers on a variety of feminist topics but to meet each other, make comments, ask questions of the presenters and discuss feminist politics together. U.S. Supreme Court Guts Women’s Rights

As soon as we were half-hopeful that despite our concerns about where the “transgender status” part of the Bostock decision might lead us, that at least lesbians might have gained some protection against discrimination, the situation quickly went downhill. The US Supreme Court issued two more decisions, voting to create religious exemptions the size of a Mack Truck into civil rights laws and went on to deny millions of women access to free birth control under the Affordable Care Act. (Don’t worry, Viagra is still available.) Again, the employer’s “religious freedom” has turned female workers into wholly-owned subsidiaries of their employers, with the right to pry into their bedrooms and control what happens to their bodies.
